The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s 2011 Champions for Change Gala and Auction

The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is dedicated to ending sexual violence through healing and social change. 

BARCC provides comprehensive, FREE services, which include counseling, legal advocacy, case management, a 24-hour hotline, a medical accompaniment program, and community outreach and education to victims of rape and their family members, as well communities in the greater Boston area. We are the oldest independent rape crisis center in the state, and the second-oldest in the nation.

On Thursday, November 17^th,  2011 BARCC will celebrate its 2011 Champions for Change Gala and Auction. This is an inspiring evening that brings together over 400 of BARCC’s most loyal supporters, for three important reasons:

-          To celebrate individuals who have made a significant contribution to the fight against sexual violence;

-          To honor BARCC’s 140 program volunteers, who make up the backbone of BARCC’s services; and

-          To raise much-needed funds so that BARCC can continue to provide its services at absolutely no cost to those who access them.

The evening will feature fine food & drink and silent & live auctions to raise money for BARCC’s free services. BARCC will also present annual awards to our 2011 Champion for Change, Chico Colvard for his award-winning film Family Affair, and to BARCC’s extraordinary volunteers. Cocktail hour and silent auction will begin at 6:00 pm.

Each year, SAALT coordinates Be the Change (BTC), an annual national day of service to inspire and foster civic engagement and community building through volunteerism and community service. Thousands of participants across the country contribute numerous hours of community service in the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote, "Be the change you wish to see in the world."

In 2010, nearly 3,500 volunteers participated in 15 cities and over 60 campuses!

This year, BTC falls on Saturday, October 1st. The 2011 theme is "Rise Up in Service."

Volunteers Needed for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

(Boston, MA) – Volunteers are needed for the 19^th annual American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade in Boston. Volunteers are needed the day before the walk, Saturday, October 1, to help prepare snack bags for our walkers, as well as help us set up for the following day’s event. On Sunday, October 2, volunteers are needed to help set up and clean up, cheer on walkers, and act as route monitors. Since its inception in 1993, nearly seven million walkers nationwide have raised more than $400 million to help fight breast cancer. In 2010 alone, more than 800,000 walkers across the country collected more than $60 million to support the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back. It chronicles the long and dramatic struggle for control of the Barnes Foundation, a private collection of art valued at more than $25 billion. The role of the foundation world feeds the controversy.
